Ben Hammond’s review published on Letterboxd:
This is one of the most predictably contrived movies I have ever seen.
It depends on the viewer not thinking about what is actually going on and just going with the "story." Without giving away any spoilers, if one were to stop for a moment and think about the non-linear timeline of the film, they'd realize that the events would have never taken place in the first place.
The "love story" is forced. The "tragedy" is forced. And there's no respect for the viewer. The film assumes that the viewer is stupid enough to go along with the story, but juuuuust smart enough to think that the idea is profound.
Arrival felt like the worst movie Christopher Nolan ever directed....
I may hate this movie more than any movie I've ever seen.
