I've never watched a more "of the moment" movie than this one. It perfectly captures a night of getting together with friends during this pandemic and that realism makes all the scary stuff super effective.

Host is a perfect modern ghost story that never slows down or gets boring. The characters are all likable and feel like real friends who you might get together with on Saturday night during lockdown. Knowing this was all actually shot on Zoom (with almost…

The last 15 minutes of this movie blew me away. I was really into this movie before that, but that ending took this to a whole nother level. It's just so crazy and badass and I immediately knew this was going to be one of my new favorites.

The original Evil Dead movies were some of the first horror movies I ever loved and they’re still some of my favorites today, so I was a little hesitant to give this movie…

    Slumber Party Massacre

This was a lot of fun and made for a clever twist on the original. I especially like how it took elements from the first film (and slashers in general) and subverted them in smart and sometimes funny ways. It even has some surprisingly creative gory kills for a TV movie. I feel like it loses it footing a little toward the end, but it's still an enjoyable modern take on the series.

It gets an extra half star because the guitar from SPM2 makes an extended appearance.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

I liked this but not nearly as much as the 2018 one. HK definitely suffers from being the second movie in a trilogy. It's the middle of a story with no real beginning or end and tries to do too much. But it was nasty and brutal and managed to surprise me more than once and that’s enough to make me happy with Michael Myers on the screen.

The focus wasn’t on Laurie this time while I think that was…

    Black Christmas

    ★★★

This new iteration of Black Christmas is pretty good, a little heavy handed with its message, but overall pretty good. The trailer didn’t spoil as much as I was afraid it would, because some of the things that are spoiled in the trailer actually aren’t anywhere in the movie. Despite all the negative reactions this movie has received (or "pre"-actions since almost all the complaints came from people who hadn't watched the movie) I went into this with an open…
