The absolutely bonkers third act saved this from being actually bad, but juuuuust barely. The first two thirds of this movie are filled with boring / bad acting, unlikeable characters, and far inferior storytelling than the original had. The only thing this movie does better than the original is to include much more Lovecraftian elements especially with the final scene.

Go in blind - definitely don't read the summary on Shudder, in my opinion it gives away far too much of the plot. Just know that six friends decide to hold a séance over Zoom, things go wrong.

Very effective use of jump scares and tension building. It's been a very long time since I was actually on the edge of my seat and feeling anxious about what would happen in the next few seconds. This film definitely had me…
