The Five Venoms

The Five Venoms ★★½

As an undisputed Kung Fu classic, directed by Shaw Brothers veteran Chang Cheh, the movie is one of the first movies to star the “Venom Mob”. That being said: the movie is drastically lower budget than Cheh’s previous epics like The Heroic Ones and The Blood Brothers so anyone expecting similar quality will be disappointed. The terrible wigs, the marker pen facial hair, the limited sets and the lackluster direction all add up to some campy fun - so whether this period of Cheh’s career is to your liking entirely comes down to your preference in the genre.
