Like telling a narcissist they’re beautiful.
The subjects in this documentary walk into Werzogs genius approach in making them believe it is a film of praise for what they have done. The result boils down to monsters boasting of their atrocities, false bravado and clear signs of post traumatic stress from there actions.
The best nightmare you have ever had. A dark, atmospheric and confined masterpiece.
Jarin Blaschke's (DOP) genius decision to use a boxy 1.1:9 ratio confines the two characters together. Before dialogue or any type of action, you can feel the claustrophobia of the lighthouse and the unescapable tension throughout the film. Excellently casted, performed, written and shot. Do we expect anything else from Eggers?
