  • Nomadland

It's strange that you encourage people to invest their whole life savings, go into debt, just to buy a house they can't afford.

You always hear tall tales of a movie that’s so powerful in its triggering of an emotional response that it drowns out the relevance of the plot entirely. Where all you’re left with in the end is the self-imposed challenge of having to hold yourself together. I’ve always believed that to be a myth. However, Chloe Zhao’s Nomadland is…

    Raya and the Last Dragon

I saw people lose their minds over a Dragon Gem. Can you imagine what they’d do over an actual dragon?

Disney is back to bring us their newest animated classic, Raya and the Last Dragon. Another family adventure film with a modern female empowerment archetype heroine to lead the charge, a la Brave and Moana, which I love. And while it’s not as strong as a Moana, and has definite flaws, it’s still a successful venture worth watching.

    Right up front, this…

    Boss Level

You’ve been killing me with Hitler’s gun this whole time?!

I love me some repeating day movies. Yeah, at this point you can say it’s incredibly formulaic, sure. But these movies are the definition of ‘the journey is more important than the destination’ and I dig that. There’s a lot of interesting concepts, meaning, and adventure to be mined. So what happens when you take part Edge of Tomorrow, part John Wick, and part Scott Pilgrim vs the World? Well,…

    Coming 2 America

    Oh hell no, your majesty!

I’m not even going to try to sugarcoat this. Coming 2 America is bad. Like, really bad. Like, I would rather rewatch Tom & Jerry again, then have to watch this again kind of bad. That’s next level bad. I hated it. Let me count the ways...

First of all, this movie never needed to exist. The original was a complete story. No hanging threads or loose endings. There was genuine heart to it, with real…

    Tom & Jerry

    I’m sorry, he’s a bit animated.

I was fully intending to skip this his one. Then I saw the ratings and reviews start rolling in.  Big yikes. So, what am I to do? Well, we have to watch it for the memes at this point, because it can’t be that bad... right? Plus, the kid wanted to watch it. So, Tom & Jerry, here we go.

Yeah, this movie is bad. As an aside, I’m beginning to suspect that Warner Bros.…

  • Spaceballs

Merchandising. Merchandising, where the real money from the movie is made. Spaceballs-the T-shirt, Spaceballs-the Coloring Book, Spaceballs-the Lunch box, Spaceballs-the Breakfast Cereal, Spaceballs-the Flame Thrower! The kids love this one.

Every once in a while it’s great to enjoy a nice parity film. Shine a spotlight on the ridiculous nature of some of these franchises that are cherished and adored so much. Tonight, every watched one I probably hadn’t seen in over a decade. And while some of the jokes may…
