“The only thing my father gave me that was any value was pain, and you want to take that away?”
I have heard and seen so much talk about how Adam Sandler was snubbed from the best actor nomination at the 2019 Oscars for his role in “Uncut Gems”. I am convinced those people who say that haven’t seen this movie. Shia LaBeouf gives his most powerful performance in his career. It baffles me that no one is talking about his performance in this. He steals the show. He plays a abusive alcoholic father perfectly. There is tons of emotion raging through him that each emotional scene Shia either makes me want to cry and feel for his character or makes me want to punch his face for being such a profound father. His counterpart, Noah Jupe who plays the son does a exceptional job as well. Now, I love father & son movies and this film is solely focused on that so this story might not be for everyone. This movie has it’s flaws of course but they didn’t ruin the movie for me. Ultimately, this is a wonderful character driven story that is flawlessly executed by Shia LeBeouf’s heartfelt performance.
