“You wanna know what happens to an eyeball when it gets punctured? Do you got any idea how much blood jets out of a guy's neck when his throat's been slit?”
I’ll get right into it. Rutger Hauer’s performance is what made this movie so fun to watch. He was so evil that when he isn’t even on screen you can feel his haunting ghostlike presence around every corner. After watching the 2007 remake and not being able to see this one I thought it wouldn’t age well considering it’s from the 80’s but I can tell you now this one is much better not only because of Rutger’s brilliant performance but the direction from Robert Harmon. Every shot was beautifully made, there were some shots of the desert that made me gaze upon because of how mesmerizing it was. Other than the 80’s retro techno score I wouldn’t know that I was watching a movie from the 80’s. The car crashes and action scenes were phenomenal. I was even unaware that Jenifer Jason Leigh was in this as well and she is great as always. There are flaws however, the third act begins to get silly with the decisions by the cops and our lead actor doesn’t bring it to the the table unlike his counterpart but nonetheless I was surprised by how thrilling and enjoyable this movie was. It’s free on YouTube which is surprisingly awesome.
