Scarface ★★★★½

"Nothing exceeds like excess."

I love this film and there's just so much of it. De Palma brings his A-game behind the camera combining Hitchcockian suspense with stylishly brutal violence and Al Pacino chews scenery like there's no tomorrow. The thing that stood out to me most this rewatch is how Stone's tone stands out even though it is buried under De Palma's constant directorial flourishes and Pacino's towering performance. At the film's core it is a socio-economical study of the moral bankruptcy of capitalism and how immigrants view the America dream that just happens to feature several machine gun battles and cheesy synth pop, both things the enhance any film.
