How Hellas Got Her Groove Back
I remember this movie so clearly. I watched it with my mum, thea and cousin when I was 13. I’m so glad to revisit it and find that I still love it. It’s so sweet and such a wonderful portrait of life in middle age. I think Pauline Collins as the titular Shirley Valentine is one of my most beloved film performances. Humor informed by sweetness and sincerity allowing us into her world with such disarming honesty.
It’s also crazy that this film is set in Mykonos and there’s almost zero actual Greeks in it.
