    Speed

    ★★★★

“Speed” is pure high energy action cinema at its finest. It fully commits to its ridiculous premise and that´s what makes it both charming and exciting. The film was directed by “Die Hard” cinematographer Jan de Bont and he clearly knows how to keep the tension at a high level. The elevator opening and subway ending are amazing as well, but the main selling point of the movie is the bus that can´t get slower than 50 miles per hour.…

    Black Narcissus

    ★★★★

In the hands of the masterful filmmakers Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, a movie about horny nuns in the Himalaya becomes a tense and captivating psychological drama as well as a meticulously crafted and visually marvelous art film.

“Black Narcissus” is simply gorgeous. The otherworldly setting, breathtaking cinematography, brilliant shot composition, fantastic use of vibrant colors and atmospheric lighting, beautiful costumes, and lavish production design make it a feast for the eyes you won´t forget. The film also has a…

    Jurassic World

    ★★½

How often can you repeat the same mistake?

If you are a fan of dinosaurs terrorizing humans and fighting each other, you might enjoy “Jurassic World” as dumb but fun blockbuster spectacle, but it clearly lacks the wonder, suspense, excitement, and thematic depth of the original. It´s a soulless rehash with a dull screenplay, stupid plot points, and bland and/or annoying characters (I´m always happy to see Jake Johnson, though). The action and special effects are quite good, and there…
