    Everybody Wants Some!!

    ★★★★½

In almost every comedic movie I've ever seen, no matter how funny the overall film is, there's going to be moments of drama. It seems all comedic writers need to channel their inner Billy Shakespeare. What I adore about Richard Linklater's Everybody Wants Some is the closest we get to drama is the comment made by Jake, the character most of the movie is seen through, about Super Baseball Scout Pete Ward, not being real. The tension lasts for seconds,…

Sometimes we romanticize the wrong people. Killers, thieves, bandits etc etc. QT, never known for passing History class, does something so right, I can’t stop smiling. Instead of painting some sympathetic picture of the Manson Family, he picks Margot Robbie’s Sharon Tate as his rightful muse. The passion in her presence is contagious. She doesn’t have a lot of lines, but this is her movie. Without her character, none of this would be possible.

Brad and Leo are real movie…

Off Limits is my type of film. Willem Dafoe and Gregory Hines play the military cops investigating a serial killer in Saigon during the Vietnam War.

Perhaps the best part of the film is Fred Ward’s mustache. His facial hair looks fabulous.

Off Limits has good action mixed with a great twist. It also shows the Hell of War. Dafoe and Hines are awesome. Hines grabs the bad guys by the ding-a-ling and Dafoe takes a nun to a strip…

Revisiting Scream after watching the latest Scream reminded me why Scream (96) and Halloween (78) are my two favorite slasher movies of all time.

    Just a few notes:

Kevin Williamson’s wit and self-awareness are on full display. The opening sequence with Casey is arguably one of the greatest “shock” openings of any movie I can think of. The back-and-forth banter between Casey and Ghostface is sharp writing. The opening is still terrifying as fuck.

We have rules to survive a scary movie,…

Damien Chezelle's tale of a boy, his drums, and a teacher that speaks ever so loudly, and carries the biggest stick of badass this side of the Academy Awards, in one of the most heart pounding cardiac arrest breathtaking intense movies I've ever seen. The opening beat. The opening shot. The first time J.K. Simmons speaks. Groovy funky jazzy music makes all movies better. RIFIFI is the shit. Carter Burke? I knew Miles Teller was going to be special after…

College kid returns to his hometown after his dad is injured in a freak accident. Kid finds severed ear on the ground. Kid plays Scooby-Doo detective. Kid hides in a closet. Kid gets caught in the middle of a crazy kidnapping scheme. Kid falls in love. Kid has final boss battle with loco Dennis Hopper. Just another day in the sleepy town of Lumberton, right?

Imagine if you could show Blue Velvet to someone unfamiliar with any of the actors.…
