okay IM ON BOARD NOW FUCK YES

watching this a second time, fresh faced, all expectations rid from my mind and ready to just appreciate it for what it is really did the trick. because what it is is exquisitely crafted spectacle which you rarely see anymore!!! and its dune!! i picked up on so many more subtleties and nuance in it this time around, so much so that lines i complained about being cheesy or over-explaining actually came off…

not rating yet, i dont want to put a numerical value on my enjoyment just yet haha

i have to sit on it i think. i love the books, and i love the world, i love its ideas, characters, how well thought through it is, how it feels tangible and enormous in scale. and obviously mediums differ, but maybe i expected something else, something less weightless. i like it! dont get me wrong, but maybe my hype for this one…

ive seen things you people wouldn’t believe... sympathy for the de vil, cgi dogs, joker shot recreations, an openly gay guy who is never openly gay...

all these moments will be lost.. like mums... off cliffs.

i tweeted, probably about 30 minutes into this, that i “wanted what bo burnham has”. i do mean that. not just his technical talent in lighting and directing and editing which is fucking mind blowing, like i can’t believe it looks this good. i do want that. but beyond that, his honesty, his candidness, his artistic skill. who needs artifice when you can just set up a camera and some lights, and sing a song?

    hes the kind of creator…
