Staring at a screen.
favs = those I saw recently and thought were really quite summit.
Sidney Flanigan and Talia Ryder are a duo like no other. Repeat goosebumps on a second watch are an indicator of the quality of their acting, and director Eliza Hittman’s light-touch - long close-ups shot in the greyhound and tears that come in the consultation room. A terrific piece of filmmaking.
Park right up below the setting sun. Chloe Zhao has done wonders here with the lighting, and Frances McDormand works so well as Fern - moving from site to site in her van, meeting like-minded folks - sharing cigs, sandwiches and stories about the road. What a film to welcome back the cinema.
