Absolutely sublime b-movie action right here! I generally prefer Carpenter’s horror offerings to his sci-fi and action stuff, but this and Assault on Precinct 13 are some 5 star stuff if there ever was any. The 80’s gave us lots of “NYC is the gate to Hell” type of movies and this shows it at its gritty worst/best. The idea of turning NY into a giant island prison is frankly brilliant and Carpenter is a top boss, y’all.
Kurt Russell’s Plissken should have launched an entire franchise and can you just imagine a crossover movie with Snake and Jack Deth from Trancers?? I’m really not sure any of us could handle that level of awesome. Anyway, I love how this movie is going along and you’re like “ok this is really great” and then Adrienne Barbeau pops up and you’re like “well damn this is 5 stars for sure huh”.
Also totally unrelated to this movie, but I was reading some trivia about Russell and it said he was voted “most attractive” in his class in high school and duh, but if there was also a category for “best hair” then it must have been a tough decision because c’mon seriously how is anyone’s hair that perfect?!! 💁♀️
