wow! beautifully shot and disturbing on several levels. i know Brandon Cronenberg has explicitly stated that he didn’t intend this film to have a message so much as to just be a horror film, but i believe we’re all shaped by our material conditions so that even latent themes in art reflect the realities of the artist. it’s clear that there’s an anti-capitalist message behind this somewhere. i won’t get much more into it because i don’t want to spoil anything. but the film is very good and hopefully will re-introduce body horror to a generation that grew up watching found footage and the Conjuring universe horror films. welcome to a whole new subgenre!
