One of the last of the great auteur-driven franchises before the MCU changed things around (creatively and financially). Indeed, it's entirely too long and tried to tie up way too many loose ends for something that didn't end up being the final installment. But that doesn't stop it from being equally as fun, goofy, and harrowing as the other two. Might have taken a step or two too far towards the grim and dark, but don't let that distract you - these pirates have one last great sailing left in them. I myself *might* have fanboyed when sounds from the ride started playing after they went over the waterfall. Even to its end, the original Pirates trilogy is completely reverent to the idea and the ride that started it all.
