'When you come to the end of the line, with a buddy who is more than a brother and a little less than a wife, getting blind drunk together is really the only way to say farewell..' (Kurt Russell as The Narrator)
It's a little too early for me to discuss in any great detail Quentin Tarantino's loving paen to LA as the '60's drew to a close and ushered in the darker '70's. No, I need to take a step back in order to absorb and reflect on what I've just seen... and then probably go and watch it again!
So for now I'll make just one brief observation and leave it at that: all good fairy tales are supposed to have a happy ending which leaves you with a comforting glow, but QT's genius here is to render a satisfying conclusion that, on quick reflection, is bathed in sober melancholy..
