From a purely storytelling perspective, Sweet Smell of Success blew my mind. During the past years I've become increasingly aware of when women are getting short changed on screen and specifically how often they're horribly written and given nothing to do. In here that is the exact thing that happens, men do things and the women don't get anything to do than just react. We have two men who are flat out villains, seeking to break up a woman's engagement…

I had my The Worst Person in the World phase which was coincidentally also four years as it is in here, from when I was 23 to 27. At 29 I have more or less figured myself out, but I'm not in a place I wanna be, which is fine. Life is indeed not about milestones, it's about moments and the way the film goes on to illuminate this point is so wonderfully bittersweet.

    There's never a lack of understanding…

Well how about that. This time around the ending landed much better as I appreciated the subtle ways Grant as the former lover weasels his way back into the love of his life's life and maneuvers her to the point where she eventually has to rethink everything. I didn't buy the ending the first time around cause I didn't find it developed enough to be satisfying, but on this rewatch the central pair's conclusion was satisfying enough due to a…

    The Fallout

The shooting is shown through the eyes of three people inside a bathroom who only hear the gunshots outside in the hallways as they cover inside a stall being scared to death that someone is going to come inside. The whole sequence lasts a mere two minutes and the shooter or the violence is never actually shown on screen. It's a rather tasteful way of showing something like that, with the focus being fully on the trauma the act leaves…

My father walked into the room part way through the film and asked me what I was watching. I summed up the gist of the movie and what was happening and I specifically highlighted that there's a relationship of intimidation and domination between Phil (Cumberbatch) and Peter (Smit-McPhee), where Phil bullies Peter since he perceives him as weak. Dad stayed in the room for a while and witnessed the beginning of the sequence where Phil begins to bond with Peter…

    Black Mirror: Bandersnatch

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch is an elaborate troll job which thesis is elementary and common knowledge to anyone who has ever played choose your adventure games. The movie received media buzz and speculation revolving around its unordinary storytelling format and the supposed five hours of footage. On Bandersnatch's page the run time is stated as ninety minutes and it's about how long I wasted on the thing. Seems like the claimed five hours was the length of the rough cut and…
