people who think Coraline is scary are in for a real treat with this one. grotesque and dirty and rough, this animation does impossible things practically. mural and papier-mâché stop motion come in and out of existence, constantly changing and morphing between creation and destruction. the use of animation alone warrants all 5 stars. I really had only the vaguest idea what was happening in terms of the political undertones but I couldn’t stop watching. don’t watch this while high please.

not only would I not be mad if Adele Haenel killed me, it’s actually my preferred form of death…

little did I know it was the day before World AIDS Day when I decided to watch this kinetic, political, erotic, emotional, hopeful film about ACT UP Paris.

Somehow, a racist, glasses-wearing, virgin, paraplegic Michael Cera is both the funniest and saddest thing I’ve ever seen. I watched this film in a constant state of jaw-drop. It was like a polished up version of Gummo. Janicza Bravo, you’re a genius.

the plaster of paris bagel with cream cheese paperweight is maybe the funniest thing ever?

also very nice to see 80’s NYC soho having a large gay community. scorsese seems appropriately intrigued by leather daddies making out and twinks starting a witch hunt. it adds to the surreal comedy but the depictions are never negative. anyway this movie is so tonally bizarre but so good too.
