Valeska’s review published on Letterboxd:
finding a film that has no male gaze is very difficult, and my first summer does it. young queer stories are never told, especially not in such a warm, innocent light. they are so fucking young and dumb and clueless but very much falling in love. i think these stories are seldom told because people find it hard to understand that queer people fall in love like anyone else -- it's so normal yet so taboo. many queer people grow up either repressing or suppressing this part of their identity, thus we never get to experience young love like this. something so sweet and intimate. i hope there are young queer girls out there who come to watch this with a better understanding of the world and themselves, something i wish i had.
