I always forget Kevin Bacon’s in this for two seconds! I love Kevin Bacon. The best Thanksgiving movie because it’s about the inherent agony of the holidays and isn’t weighed down by having to be really Christmasy and can actually focus on the discomfort and the comedy. The best thing John Candy ever did; I also think it’s probably my favorite Hughes film. Steve Martin is essentially Scrooge here, with Candy functioning as his Jacob Marley; cherish what you have while you still have it; eventually you only have memories. Hell is other people, but all discomfort is bearable for those you love. The end makes me cry every time. I especially love the scene where they’re drinking the tiny liquor bottles and finally laughing at how stupid life is.
