The Man Who Invented Christmas

The Man Who Invented Christmas ★★★★½

This was fucking lovely. I’m a huge fan of another of Nalluri’s films, Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day, and somehow didn’t know he directed this until the end credits rolled and I went “OH MY GOD I LOVE HIM MISS PETTIGREW YESSSS”. Besides how completely in love with Dan Stevens I am, I love that this film is especially for writers; for anyone who has ever struggled beneath a mountain of obstacles only to create luminous art when they come out the other side. As I still struggle every day to write the book I know is in me, this reduced me to hopeful tears. The Christmas Carol story has been an integral, essential part of this season for me since I was a child, and I can’t imagine my life without it. This is a new Yule classic as far as I’m concerned.
