Theresa Wang’s review published on Letterboxd:
ok so most people have already praised this film's visuals, acting, world-building etc. and i don't have much else to add to that as i wholly agree, but can we talk about the theme of fertility and how it reflects upon the commodification of women in the film? i get that as a sci-fi dystopian film it's meant to be a critique of the present world, but the portrayal of female sex bots and uterus stabbing violence is so ambiguous and confusing. my problem isn't so much of the presence of sex workers, slaves, violence, etc. but rather the erasure of labour involved and thus the obfuscation of motivation.
