Shift

Shift

The frame is split into six horizontal frames. These shift in place, and the camera zooms, tilts, and pans in place. The grey landscape is scattered and rebuilt in moving pieces, in patterns of showing (zoom out starting from the bottom frame, pan right led by the middle frame, etc.). Here is a new kind of movement. A movement of space, or of the camera's ability to move through space, though only ultimately a movement of the image. A new kind of seeing, as the sporadic pointing finger and magnifying circle suggest. Although sometimes one arrives without the other. Look closely, they say, at this column that means no more than anywhere else, and salvage me by bringing me back to the surface of the screen.
