    A synthwave nightmare inspired equally by Carpenter and Cronenberg (catch the Romero Easter Egg as well), with more modern indie pacing and nightmare sequences. Pleasantly absent of jump scares but still some truly scary moments.

    This movie makes two huge mistakes:

    One, it calls itself out. There's a scene where an art critic is dunking on protagonist Anthony (played excellently by the terrific Abdul-Mateen II) that more or less makes fun of the script itself. It's about gentrification and race and the cycle of violence but at this point those are just buzzwords devoid of meaning and actual artistic depth to be explored anymore.
