We have been treated to many quality family films recently and Spider-Man:Into the Spider-Verse has raised the proverbial bar another level.
Unparalleled visuals draw you into the charged universe and bring a fresh twist on a familiar Manhattan. The creative power that must have gone into answering the question of 'how to visualise multi-dimensional "physics"' is impressive and even in a fortuitous second viewing I found myself drowning in the colourful flashes simulating travelling through the multiverse. So much so that I needed to actively divert my eyes. This could be seen as a negative, but after recently viewing many docile films, it is nice to be overwhelmed for once.
Alongside the the effective music and excellent voice acting, this film is a treat for the senses and can keep you enthralled with fast pacing and the right amount of humour. The plot is perhaps a bit simple, but for a film aimed at all audiences it still manages to throw some emotional twists and morals, especially for younger viewers.
Ultimately any film that manages to not take itself so seriously but still leaves such an impression on me is worthy of my 5th star.
