trying to reign in the uncontrollable urge to be super mean about everyone who gave this movie a bad review… for example, people saying the “songs are bad”… what about this movie made anyone think the songs in this movie are, like, Songs? grow up 💋
I’ll be the first to admit that I was a huge bitch during the first half of this movie and kept saying that it wasn’t working for me (tiny brain energy) but once baby Annette shows up this thing is all gas no brakes: the 1 second gorilla scene, adam driver holding Annette up in the air with one hand, the press conference (can’t express how good that was), driving the motorcycle through specters of Marion, the comedy show where adam and the audience are yelling at each other, the sea hag, the first time Annette sings with her little muppet silhouette on the bedroom wall, literally everything about the Baby Annette show, HUMAN Annette at the end?? it’s so rare to see a movie that swings so hard again and again these days — maybe because the industry isn’t letting it happen ($$$), maybe because it’s out of style. either way, it reminds me of the silent film era: sexy stylized acting, huge misty-veiled emotions, nightmarescapes, a kind of interdimensional version of reality, set pieces from Hell, an archaic and mythological skepticism about human nature. I loved it.
