Mike Hricik’s review published on Letterboxd:
Some very mixed feelings on Amélie...for one thing, did anyone else find our mischievous protagonist to be unjustly cruel to the vegetable stand owner? Like, by the end of the movie, the ever-smiling Audrey Tautou slowly drives a man insane, all the while falling madly in love, as if that makes it OK. The perceived precociousness and whimsy of the plot threads also caused the first hour to be almost unbearably annoying.
When Amélie's attention shifts to courting Nino (Mathieu Kassovitz), the exciting cinematography and color palettes take an unyielding hold, even if other characters remain peripheral in interest. There's nothing quite like the explosions of imagination Jean-Pierre Jeunet creates in the minds of the two lovers.
