$2 bluray blind buy, didn't hate but not great. The cast is amazing, and the film oozes style, but the songs and filmmaking left me cold in the end. I prefer Marshall's Chicago.

Blu-ray blind buy on Criterion, I understand now why people talk about this one. The visual filmmaking here was awesome, amazing use of color and movement. The story was pretty simplistic, but I didn't mind it as there was so much to chew on the presentation side.

    Slow West

Slow West is like if Quentin Tarantino, Wes Anderson, and Jim Jarmusch bore a love child in New Zealand, then raised it in old west Colorado, with the life expectancy of a kiddie film's runtime. (And I mean that in the most complimentary way possible.)

    In theaters October 31, 2014.

Wow, what a deliciously creepy film first-time director Dan Gillroy has here. Gyllenhaal plays his hand perfectly as a cold obsessive who finds career opportunity in capturing crime footage as fast and as grizzly as possible in order to sell it at the highest price to the local news, a pursuit that eventually leads him to bend the rules of the game - along with everyone around him. A+, would watch again.
