Initially I tried to bump this movie down a notch. It’s a perfect film in its element, but its element is a movie that’s both dumb and bad.
Still, even given that truth, Black Dynamite, much like OSS 117: Lost in Rio, is parody perfected. That rare class of movie that both mocks its genre, while also existing as an excellent expression of the genre’s core values and artistry.
Also, and let’s just be honest, THIS SHIT IS FUNNY. Really funny. All the time. Non stop. The whole scene where Black Dynamite has his Nam flashback just kills me.
There are some people who are just never going to like it. It’s too dumb, silly, low rent, whatever. But they’re no fun anyway. A 5/5 for enjoyment.
