seems to take too much pleasure in its depiction of war to really effectively give doss’ conviction true moral consequence. andrew garfield and hugo weaving are both good in this, and the film has its moments, but any actually noteworthy stuff is drowned out by empty excess

Chungking Express 1994
my first wong kar-wai! very much a fan of how alive this movie felt, a kind of unceasing swaying through relationships and emotional states that seem to only ever become significant when they become memories

Shazam! 2019
Genuinely one of the most fun superhero movies I’ve ever seen. It felt like there was a real balance between a modern interpretation of a happy-go-lucky hero like Shazam and the childlike wonder with which superheroes like him are still viewed through. There were some seriously creepy and sinister moments, but it never lost its heart, which is a welcome change from the vast majority of the DCEU’s output.
