The Lone Ranger

The Lone Ranger ★★★½

I saw a lot of the big blockbusters of 2013, and there were a couple I like more than this one, but none that I was more eager to revisit. Same flaws I remembered from a year ago - too long, genocide stuff is jarring without being effective enough, what's Helena Bonham Carter doing - but the significant pleasures are intact too. Not just the great train climax but lots of fun action throughout, and not the kind that's choked to death with CGI.

Not the second coming of Sergio Leone, but it does put me in a mood to watch Leone's movies (especially the Morricone-echoing score), which is more than I can say for most of the stuff one sees in a movie theater nowadays.
