Terrifying. Disturbing. Exhilarating.
Sadly I want to say it lacked in storytelling but was anchored by amazing performances, compelling premise and narrative, and most of all, the VISUALS. The cinematography and the VFX was extraordinary! Companies spend millions of dollars on special effects yet this movie simply had a mask with a tint which was more profound to me then a lot of the stuff I have seen elsewhere. It was haunting.
I'm not a fan of horror movies being gruesome for the sake of it. It just isn't something I enjoy. However the violence in this felt authentic and complemented the picture well.
Lets talk about the ending. OH MY WORD! I loved it. I've read that people found the ending quit ambiguous but it seemed pretty clear cut to me. Genuinely when It clicked in my head I gasped so loudly it startled my sleeping cat and we both just locked eyes, absolutely shocked. Shocked for completely different reasons I might add but you never know he was having a little look at the screen every know and then (didn't do that when we was watching Your Name).
Anyway, currently there are two horrors movies I would gladly revisit. The first is scream and this is the second! Great film.
