Zander Rice’s review published on Letterboxd:
EVIL DIES… tomorrow (or sometime, I don’t really know)
This movie is a BLAST, and watching this in a packed theater on premiere night was one of the highlights of my year. This movie exceeds the 2018 predecessor in every way, and I can’t wait for everyone to watch it.
Yes, this movie has a relatively low Letterboxd score (which I’m a lil surprised by to be honest), but it has everything a Halloween fan could ask for and more. Blood, guts, gore, fan service, callbacks, a great progression of story and characters, and an absolutely devastating ending that sets up ‘Halloween Ends’ perfectly.
However, this movie isn’t without its flaws. I have a few of them, most regarding the way some particular characters from the original 1978 film were brought in. But, the cheap Danny McBride comedy is practically gone, which is a definite plus.
Maybe I’m just hype at the moment, maybe this score will go down in the future, but goddangit, it’s about time we had a good ol fashioned slasher flick.
