    Scream

    ★★

Scream was made for Scream fans. To keep this short, I’m no fan; even of the original. I wish I could get invested in horror franchises, but this left a bad taste in my mouth. All this meta-horror is just not enough for general audiences to care and while the gore kept me somewhat interested I was unbelievably frustrated by how predictable & self-referential this reboot is. Thank god we have worthwhile, inventive new-age horror that doesn’t need all these boring tropes and stifling characters. Meh.

Dylan Minnette innocent (& sexy as ever)

“So you like…run the underground homo-railroad?”

Okay, I’m obsessed! I think the first rule of comedy should be, BE FUNNY FOR GOD’S SAKE! Enough with the contrived humor and bullshit. But I’m a Cheerleader toes the line of poking fun and celebrating gay people. It also just understands gay humor and how tongue in cheek it is. From a very young age, I learned the power of not taking life so seriously and to be sarcastic and make jokes even…

“I’m levitating” — Dua Lipa and also Totoro

No but seriously oh my god this was the cutest thing in the world. I miss the freedom and imagination of childhood and I idealize Miyazaki for his capacity to create the pure innocence and curiosity that shapes our fondest memories. The calmness and carefree nature that the director instills from the beginning demonstrates his admiration for each character. Beyond a wonderfully executed story with many layers & up and down emotions, the…

    Dressed to Kill

    ★½

Brian de Palma needs to be locked up. Dressed to Kill is grotesquely unhinged. What started as a very interesting character study about a woman’s failing, sex-deprived marriage and her desire to feel valued by her partner turns into a disorganized, problematic, transphobic mess. Often unbearable, this plot misses the mark completely on any worthy commentary on sex work or gender, not that is even de Palma’s intent as his laziness is apparent more and more as the movie goes along; especially with that pointless “twist”. Waste of time. Granted, a visually captivating waste of time.

    Stand by Me

    ★★★½

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Stand by Me has it all. And by “all” I mean all the charm of 80s cinema and tons of gay vibes. You got: boys tattooing each other, boys having deep talks and sobbing in the woods, soundtrack full of bops, boys singing to each other, boys saving their friend’s lives, friends encouraging their friends to pursue being a writer, just dudes being guys and guys behind dudes. 4 kids sitting around the fire cause they’re not gay.

    Apparently, it’s…
